After two years of construction and meticulous planning, the Deep Sea Pavilion is officially open to the public. This 30,000-square-foot expansion takes visitors on a journey from the twilight zone to the abyssal plains, showcasing species that most people will never see in the wild.
The centerpiece is a massive pressure-controlled tank housing giant isopods, vampire squid, and deep-sea anglerfish. Advanced lighting systems simulate the bioluminescence that illuminates the deep ocean, creating an otherworldly atmosphere.
The pavilion also features interactive stations where visitors can control remotely operated vehicle (ROV) cameras and learn about the cutting-edge technology used in deep-sea exploration. An immersive theater presents a 15-minute film about hydrothermal vent ecosystems.
The Deep Sea Pavilion is included with general admission. We recommend allowing an extra 45 minutes for your visit to fully experience this new addition.
