AquaVista is proud to be among the first aquariums in the nation to be powered entirely by renewable energy. Our new rooftop solar array, combined with an offshore wind partnership, now provides 100% of our facility’s electricity needs.
The transition, which took 18 months to complete, included the installation of 2,400 solar panels across our building rooftops and parking structures. We also implemented a rainwater harvesting system that supplies 60% of the freshwater used in our exhibits.
These changes reduce our carbon footprint by an estimated 3,200 tons of CO2 annually — equivalent to taking 700 cars off the road. The sustainability initiative also includes eliminating single-use plastics from all food service areas and gift shops.
